The serial disintegration of gold painted bricks in a courtyard damaged by the 2015 earthquake embodies the core Buddhist philosophy of impermanence––that all of existence is transient and subject to continuous change. Each line of the sculpture is one brick broken into smaller and smaller pieces. Worked with the residents of the courtyard to craft an installation that was sensitive and respectful of their lives and needs during the week-long installation. In addition, other gold bricks were placed throughout the surrounding streets and alleys as outliers to the installation. Some remained for only hours, others remained there noticed and unnoticed for weeks.
